What you need to know about the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

If you didn’t know, this weekend (10th – 12th of December) is the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. It’s no secret that the finale is going to be an exciting one, with both of the championship leaders, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, on equal points for the final race of the season.

Last weekend we saw the Formula 1 Championship go to Jeddah Corniche Circuit, with non-stop action throughout. The race had 2 red flags within 16 laps, and several incidents that caused 5 drivers to not finish the race. This now leads us into this weekends race, which is hosted here in Abu Dhabi on Yas Island.

Previous Years

Formula 1 first raced in Abu Dhabi in 2009 and has raced there ever since with Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel being the only drivers to get repeat wins at the track. In 2020 we saw Max Verstappen take his first win at Yas Marina Circuit, but will he make it onto the list of repeat winners and win the 2021 Championship this weekend?

The Track

This year we see changes to the Yas Marina circuit, track alterations include replacing turns four, five and six – a chicane and hairpin – with a single, quicker corner. Then also removing a sequence of slow bends from turns 11 to 14 with another fast left-hander, and easing turns 17 to 20. Because of the changes, 3 additional laps have been added this year, making it a more enjoyable race for spectators, after being criticized the track is ‘dreary’. Many drivers have shown support for the changes, including 8 times Grand Prix winner Daniel Ricciardo. Why not join the track chat on ASKWHO, and see what other people think?

Off-Track Entertainment

There’s so much to do during a race weekend, with off-track events taking place from Thursday-Sunday. On Thursday don’t miss out on a pit lane walk, it’s a great way to see the teams prepping the cars for the big race. Or watch the Thursday After-Race concert featuring Khalid. Off-track entertainment also includes food trucks, super park passes, game zones and live entertainment. See what other people at the event are up to over on ASKWHO.

Things to be Grateful for When Living in Dubai

Thanksgiving is a time to gather with friends and family and celebrate everything you’re thankful for. As a traditional American holiday, the celebrations in Dubai may be a little less than what you experience at home.

So whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or not, it’s always worth being grateful for what you have. Here are some great reasons why you and others can be grateful for living here in Dubai.

The City

First things first, Dubai is an incredible city. The people, the culture, even the buildings are beautiful. The Dubai skyline is a unique highlight of the city. The stunning structures featuring some of the tallest buildings in the world is a sight to see. Be sure to check out the city skyline at night. The lights make the city look radiant, and it’s no surprise Dubai is one of the most photographed skylines in the world.

Another great thing about the city is the diversity. This makes it easy to explore many cultures of the world without even stepping on a plane. Dubai has been called one of the top 10 most multicultural cities in the world. The city is robust in diversity, whether it’s shopping, education, entertainment, or food. Eating out in Dubai is not just essential; it’s a lifestyle. Living in a city with a large, diverse population has its advantages. There’s never a dull spot to try a great brunch, evening meal or try a new dish.

The Outdoors

Despite being a major city, Dubai has amazing spots of natural beauty perfect for outdoor activities. To kick things off, the beaches in Dubai are a beautiful place to go to enjoy the stunning Persian Gulf waters. The beach is filled with possibilities from sports facilities, jogging tracks, playgrounds, and plenty of places to lounge and relax along the crystal-clear waters.

But Dubai just keeps on giving. The desert is a top spot for adventures just outside of Dubai. There is never a shortage of activities when travelling out to the desert. Choose from sandboarding, taking a ride in an all-terrain vehicle, riding in a hot air balloon, or even a starlit barbeque.

Don’t forget to connect to fellow outdoor lovers on ASKWHO. Whatever you’re into, find your people. Talk, connect and discover, you may even find something new.

The Climate

The weather in Dubai is almost always blue skies. Aside from the occasional sprinkles, expect to never have to worry about planning around bad weather. The winter in Dubai has some of the most enjoyable weather of the year. When it’s not too hot, the great weather makes it a great time to partake in outdoor activities. You should take the chance to explore more of the city or go for a stroll along with one of the pristine beaches this time of year. Why not head over to ASKWHO and see how like-minded people are enjoying the great weather?

World Kindness Day; Finding Support As An Expat in Dubai

This month we celebrated World Kindness Day. Not that we need an excuse, but this is a great time to give a little extra kindness to others, and yourself.

To celebrate, we’re taking a look at where to find support as an expat in Dubai. Approximately 89% of those living in the UAE are expats, which can make it hard to make real connections. Let’s dive into where and how you can find support…

Talk To Friends.

Friends are a massive part of your support network, let’s show them some kindness. Talking to the people who know you best can make you feel better and alleviate some of your stress. Feeling low? Let’s turn your phone into a tool for good and remember you’re only a video call away from those back home. Looking to make new friends? Head on over ASKWHO to chat to a welcoming community.

Join A Group.

Have an interest or hobby? A club can be a great way to make friends and find support. If you can’t find the right one in everyday life, make it even easier by finding groups through ASKWHO – places for like-minded people to make connections about the things they love. Into Wellness or want a Women’s Only group? Love Technology and Property? ASKWHO helps you find people who share your passions. Connect with people who are going through similar situations to you and may be able to help. Or, just find someone to chat to.

Let’s Get Talking.

Kindness often stems from strong communication. Whether that’s you supporting someone else or finding the help you need, here are some of the benefits…

  1. Strengthens Relationships

Having conversations with the people around you helps you to get to know them better. It also makes you feel good. Not having those relationships can actually negatively impact your mental wellbeing.

  1. A Weight Off Your Shoulders

Get whatever’s bothering you off your chest. Or if you’re a listening ear for someone else, acts of kindness also help to trigger the release of stress-reducing hormones.

  1. Get Some Perspective

Sometimes it’s hard to take a step back and see the whole picture. Talk to someone and get their opinions. Chances are you won’t have thought of their advice yourself.

Small Acts of Kindness.

Let’s make kindness our thing, all the time. Need some inspiration? Use these acts of kindness to connect with other people, wherever you are…

  1. Talk to a stranger at a social gathering who looks like they don’t know anyone. You may just make their evening!
  2. Smile at someone who looks down. A simple smile can work wonders.
  3. Share the Dubai knowledge you have on ASKWHO. Everyone deserves to get happiness out of their city.
  4. Reach out to a new friend – they’ll be happy you thought of them and it could enhance your relationship.
  5. Reconnect with old friends. It’s never too late to show you care.

Time for change.

With World Kindness Day in mind, it’s time to make a change. Let’s bring some positivity into the social media world with ASKWHO. Quit the mindless scrolling on Instagram and Tiktok, and instead find real connections in a friendly community. We’re here to open up the conversation about what you love with like-minded people. Let’s spread some kindness with welcoming groups that are waiting for you to join.

An act of kindness for today? Pass ASKWHO on to someone who needs it.

Swim with the sharks

If you really want to go all out you can head to the Dubai Aquarium and give scuba diving a go. Discover the underwater zoo while giving a new activity a try. Not feeling as brave? You can dip your toes in with a snorkelling experience. We really have covered all bases with this suggestion.
